Has Technology Made Our Lives Easier or Harder?

May 27, 2010

Our modern lives represent a faced paced society where technology has enhanced our lives.

We are now able to easily connect and interact with our loved ones, colleagues and people from our past through creations such as mobile phones, instant messenger, Twitter, Facebook and Skype.

Some would argue these technology advancements are to the detriment of ourselves, in particular that work has now merged even more into our personal lives as we are contactable 24|7.

Is technology having a negative impact for you?

How much time do you think you waste?

What is the biggest impact on you as a result?

What do you think it’s like for those around you?

Is it an efficient use of your time?

How could you use technology better?

Be present to the person in front of you!

So many times (and I know I have been guilty of this as well), you’re out at lunch, however you need to send a text or make a phone call.

There is no doubt that sometimes there are urgent matters that need immediate attention, however I get a sense that in the majority of instances, this is not the case at all.

Remember to be present.  So many of us wish we could have more time, however perhaps it’s just our use of time that could be improved, starting with being there, fully there, with the person across the table, or with the kids in the backyard and having quality interactions.

Those around you will respect and appreciate you connecting and being present with them.  And let’s be honest, wouldn’t you like that as well?

Turn your phone off!

Do you really need your phone physically on you or on, all of the time?

I know, we are all conscious there may be an emergency, however it appears we’ve turned into this society we feel naked without our mobiles.

Also, we have become impatient – we can’t wait another hour for someone to return to the office, as we need to resolve this issue right now before someone dies!

Now, don’t get me wrong there are jobs and lives at stake in many occupations, however not all, and many can’t wait for you to finish your conversation with someone or wait for you to return from lunch.

Also don’t forget about another fantastic technology innovation – voicemail.  Yes that’s right, if it’s that important they have the option to call back or leave a message.
